When working with important files, it's essential to keep a backup of them, so that in case a virus attack or hard disk malfunction makes your data unreadable, you will be able to restore it from the backup. Unfortunately, Windows doesn't include a reliable tool for backing up files and folders, so one should turn to additional applications for this. Installing SmartSynchronize is not something to worry about, as its installer is simple to complete, including step by step instructions. After installing and launching the application, the user will be presented with a welcome screen, in which he will need to define the default and the backup folders. These folders can be both located on the hard disk or on a USB memory stick.

After having defined the folders, the user will be taken to the main interface of SmartSynchronize, in which he will be able to view all his files and folders in an Explorer-like style. The synchronization process can be initiated with a single mouse click and the application is able to detect whether some files have been copied to the backup folder or not.

Besides synchronizing files, SmartSynchronize is also able to compare files and folders, clearly displaying the differences between them. In this way, the user will be able to compare two different versions of the same file, found in two different locations. What's more, a 3 way merge feature is available, which allows the user to integrate a file into another one. This feature can be used for creating a single book, from multiple chapter files.

For making it easier to perform various synchronization tasks, SmartSynchronize includes a profile manager, which allows the user to define various projects.
